2026 Calendar of Programs & Events
Thursday, April 16 --LEIHS will host a “Lunch and Learn” from noon to 1 pm at the Museum for our Local Schieble-Downing American Legion members and Museum members. Members bring a bag lunch and join us. The Museum will provide lunches for our veteran guests. A Volunteer Historian will give a short talk on Albert Schieble and Rex Downing.
Friday, May 15 -- LEIHS Museum Open for Season. We’re open daily, 11 am to 5 pm.
Saturday, May 16 --If we have opened by this weekend, the Heritage Resale Shop is “Bargain City” during the PIBCC Island Wide Garage Sale. We’re happy to accept donations of your leftover items.
Monday, May 25 -- Memorial Day – LEIHS Pioneers will lay a wreath at the base of the Put-in-Bay American Legion Post 542 of Ohio's "Doughboy" in memory of our veterans at 11:30 am in DeRivera Park. Legion members will hold their Memorial Day program at Maple Leaf Cemetery Monday at noon.
Sunday, June 7-- “Day in the Life of a Lighthouse Keeper” performed by storyteller Brian Ellis at the South Bass Island Lighthouse at 2 pm.
Saturday, June 13-- LEIHS’s Museum is reviving the Founder’s Day “Ox Roast” at the DeRivera Park event celebrating Founder Jose DeRivera, from 11 am to 4 pm or until the food is all sold. Today is also the 110th Anniversary of the opening of Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial.
Sunday, June 14-- Pioneer Cemetery Walk at 4 pm. Focus is on Jose DeRivera in tribute to Founder’s Day Weekend.
Saturday, June 20 -- LEIHS’s popular Silent Auction will be held at Ohio’s Island Wine Fest, hosted by Heineman Winery. The auction will be located adjacent to the Wine Tent.
Tuesday, June 23 -- LEIHS has canceled the “Lake Erie Islands Sunset Cruise” onboard the Miller ferry boat.
Sunday, TBD -- LEIHS has postponed the “Welcome Back Potluck & Membership Drive”. We'll share information as it is determined.
Saturday, Aug. 1 -- Ottawa County-America 250: Timeline Exhibit at LEIHS. The exhibit of Ohio Historic Timeline Banners will be on display in the LEIHS Museum from August 1 through September 8.
Sunday, Aug 2 -- An Island Pioneer will greet islanders and guests at the Museum today as part of Ottawa County-America 250.
Monday, Sept. 7 -- LEIHS celebrates Labor Day with “The Traditional Mossback Photo”.
Saturday, Sept. 12 --The Lake Erie Islands Historical Society Museum will feature a display of large format black and white canvas prints recording the building of Perry’s Victory & International Peace Memorial, and the Centennial of the Battle of Lake Erie (1913) at Art in the Park on September 12. The photos were taken by Island photographer Otto G. Herbster and are from the personal collection of Board Member Maggie Beckford. LEIHS will accept Legacy Brick forms and Membership applications as well as have info on the museum and the Heritage Resale Shop.
Sunday, Sept. 13 -- LEIHS will operate the concession for Miller Boat Line’s annual Old Tyme Baseball Game, and the museum will again benefit from all proceeds of operating the concession for the game. Thank you, Market Families.
Saturday, Sept. 19 -- “Sale Away” at the Heritage Resale Shop’s 20% Off Sale. We’re always happy to accept donations after PIBCC’s Sale Away.
Sunday, Sept. 27 -- Let’s PAR-TAY! Help LEIHS’s celebrate at its 40th Birthday Membership Potluck. Bring a favorite dish to share and enjoy cake and ice cream, and a few surprises.
Saturday, Oct. 3 -- Join the “Skelly Hunt” – 50% Off Sale on select items at Heritage Resale Shop.
Sat-Sun, Oct 10-11 -- Visit us at PIBCC’s Oktoberfest. LEIHS’s Museum Booth with Books, Bricks and Memberships will be on hand.

Saturday, Oct. 31 -- LEIHS hosts a Downtown Pioneer Halloween Walk for Hardy Souls.
Tues., Dec. 1 -- Giving Tuesday. LEIHS will join the LEI Conservancy and the LEINWC on Giving Tuesday by opening our doors to the community from 11 am to 7 pm to accept charitable donations during this annual event.
With the renovation of the Heritage Resale Shop, we will be open more often in the fall and winter. That schedule will be added as we near the end of the summer.
