Mathias Burggraf

Matthias Burggraf and wife Anna Schmidt, were both born in Baden, Germany. They brought their family to the U.S. and first settled in Huron, Ohio; then Kelleys Island and finally South Bass. Their original farmhouse on East Point of South Bass Island no longer exists, but their sons’ homes are architectural points of interest on State Route 357 (Columbus Avenue).
Before the first Catholic Church was built on South Bass Island, Mass was given at the Mathias Burggraf Sr. home on East Point, 1866-1875.
